The 2017 Imperial Springs International Forum kicked off in Guangzhou on the morning of November 28th, with a speech by Party Secretary of Guangdong Li Xi.
With its theme of "Global Governance and China's Perspective," this year's forum was co-sponsored by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the Australia China Friendship and Exchange Association (ACFEA}, with 20 former foreign political leaders participating.
On behalf of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Guangdong Government, Li Xi welcomed the participation of guests from all over the world. He said that last month, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing. In accordance with the requirements of the Party Central Committee’s deployment, Guangdong is insisting on the study, promotion, and implementation of the spirit of the 19th Party Congress as the primary political task, striving to build the province into an important "window" and "demonstration area" for showcasing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
Li Xi reviewed the achievements of Guangdong's economic and social development since the reform and opening-up, and especially since the 18th National Congress of the CPC. He said that the development of Guangdong was a striking example of China’s development, demonstrating the institutional superiority of the leadership of the CPC and proving the correctness of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We are more confident than ever in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, he said.
Li Xi stressed that the 19th National Congress of the CPC promoted the establishment of a new pattern of all-round opening and established the direction for Guangdong to build a new open economic system and develop a higher level of open economy, while providing significant opportunities for cooperation between Guangdong and the world.
The forum invited senior politicians, experts and scholars, entrepreneurs and representatives of international organizations to hold discussions around the theme of "Global Governance and China's Perspective," which would help the world better understand China's perspective on global governance and also help deepen understanding of major issues in the global governance system. He hoped that all of the guests would offer suggestions to promote cooperation and exchanges between Guangdong and the world. He invited more foreign companies to invest in Guangdong and share development opportunities in order to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.
